When you are just starting out your career, it may not matter to you where you live. Later in your career, however, you will probably want to live in a place conducive to your career and to raising a family. Luckily, CNN has compiled a list of the top hundred small towns in the United States.

At fifth place, with a population of 59,100, is Franklin Township, NJ. While the state of New Jersey is often thought of for its turnpike, it is not called the Garden State for no reason. Franklin Township has a 65 acre pristine wilderness. This is quite impressive as the Township is only an hour from Manhattan.

However, you do not have to travel that far to find a job. There are many firms in the area specializing in high tech, pharmaceuticals, and research and development. On top of that, Princeton, Rutgers and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School are all very close by. For the area, housing is well priced with the average three bedroom two bathroom home going for $385,000. However, taxing can be steep.

In sixth place is Norman, OK with a population of 102,800. This city is home to the University of Oklahoma. The presence of the university helps to draw educated workers, and serves as a major source of entertainment. In addition to the football stadium, the university has a world class art museum, housing works by Degas, Monet and Renoir. The city is also fairly affordable with starter homes running around $135,000.
