Dressing to Impress

When going to a job interview, one of the things that people are always told is that they should dress appropriately and professionally. Indeed, this is a very important tip to keep in mind. Dressing impressively is important for a number of reasons.

One reason dressing well is important is because it shows that an individual as being professional. If someone comes into a job interview with jeans, the interviewee’s appearance makes it seem that she or he does understand the importance of professionalism and does not understand why professionalism is important. When working for a law firm or a large business or any business, for that matter, professionalism is extremely important.

Another reason that dressing to impress is important is because it shows that the interviewee is serious about wanting the position. Someone who comes in jeans and tennis shoes, for example, comes across as someone who may not care whether or not they get offered the job. Someone who comes dressed in professional attire displays a desire for the job. Unsurprisingly, employers prefer to hire someone who wants to work for them, as those people will more likely be better, more productive employees.

Some people may argue that dress and attire is superficial. People should not be judged on what they wear but on how they act and what type of people they are. This is definitely true; people should not rely exclusively on appearance. It does not, however, change the fact that to some extent, good dress is important and can create a positive first impression.
