Paying for Law School

Applying for law school can be a daunting process. Filling out applications, getting interviewed, studying for and taking the LSAT—all of these steps can make the law school application process stressful. Unfortunately, once people are admitted to law school a new stress arises: paying for law school. Students have to worry about how to finance their education.

There are several ways for students to pay for their law school education. Of course, they can obtain a job while taking classes. Many students choose to work simple jobs as a barista or waiter, for example, while others choose jobs that may help them with their future legal profession. Whatever jobs people choose, though, law school students need to keep in mind that they may not have enough time to both work and study.

As a result, another option that law students have is to take out loans. They can obtain loans from private banks, from the government, or from the law school itself. Depending on the source of the loan, students can get very favorable interest rates. Unfortunately, however, loans can pile up quickly because of the high costs of tuition.

Finally, there are also scholarships that students can apply for. The law school itself may have scholarship that it offers to students. There also many private sources that have scholarships for law students. To find out about these sources, law students should speak to someone in their financial aid office.

One thing that people should keep in mind is that if they attend law school at a public university, they will get reduced tuition if that university is in their state of legal residence.
