What is the NALSC?

The National Association of Legal Search Consultants, or NALSC, is an organization that is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in legal recruiting. Any consultant who is a member of NALSC has the same commitment to ethics and excellence.

Legal search consulting emerged as a business field in the late 1960s. This came about because of the greater demand for specialization in attorneys and in hiring attorneys. Since the 1960s, legal search consulting has grown dramatically as an industry. This is a far cry from the early stages of the field.

Early on, legal search consultants had almost no dialogue, allowing the standards of practice to range greatly from firm to firm and consultant to consultant. This, unfortunately, tarnished the credibility of the entire profession until the NALSC was founded in 1984.

With the professionalism instilled by the NALSC, the field of legal search consulting was able to thrive. Even today, the NALSC and its members continue to elevate the professionalism of legal search consulting through high ethical standards.

As with any group of this type, the NALSC is a standard to which all legal search consultants must hold themselves. However, there are those who hold themselves above the standard.
