Future Workplace Trends

As technology continues to evolve and the economy tightens, companies are redeveloping the standard work place to become most cost effective. The following trends are becoming very popular in the US.

4 Days a Week

Due to rising fuel costs, many employers are allowing employees to switch to working longer hours for only 4 days a week. This new 10-hour-a-day schedule is being implemented in close to a quarter of companies nationally.

Health

Employers are caring more about their employee’s health with the rising costs of healthcare. Therefore, do not be surprised if you find a new wellness center in your office. In addition, new products such as desks with treadmills allow workers to exercise while at a computer. There is also talk of companies making employees pay for their own health insurance if they participate in risky behaviors such as smoking.

Education

Companies are starting to bring the education to their employees by creating their own degree programs. By offering their own company education center, costs such as on-the job training can be reduced, and employees will have an education which is specifically targeted.

Global

Recruiting is going global. Working in another country is a good possibility.

Space

Companies are leaning towards less confined work environments such as cubicles in preference of open spaces which facilitate teamwork. Wireless access will be more common, and large tables will replace individual desks.

Offices

Big office buildings will be a concept of the past. Workers will be allowed to work at home more often, and if they require office space, it will be leased somewhere close their home. Companies have already started saving millions by implementing this new flexible work policy.

Independence

There will also be an increase of independent contractors and consultants. This way, support can be added on an as-needed basis.
