Texas Professional Legal RecruitersPrepping for the Bar Each individual state has control as to when they would like to administer their bar exam. Nevertheless, the Multistate Bar Examination portion must be administered on the same day across the country, since it is standardized. The MBE is given on the last Wednesday in July and February in all states except Delaware and North Dakota. Because of the small number of candidates, those two states only hold the bar exam once a year in February. Most states choose to administer the other portions of their bar exam in the consecutive days surrounding the MBE. However, Louisiana does not. Louisiana’s bar examination is a total of 21 hours and lasts for 3 days. Because of its lengthy time, the exam is administered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of the same week. If the state chooses to use the Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) or the Multistate Performance Test (MPT), these must be given on specific days, as they are nationally standardized. In general, they are administered on the day before the MBE. All candidates must be present in person to test, and there are strict regulations regarding what may be brought into the room, worn, and when an examinee may leave their seat. In general, law schools concentrate on teaching students how to think like an attorney and do not spend time preparing for the bar exam. Therefore, most students will spend time in between graduation and the bar exam to review. It is common to attend a private bar exam review course which is taught by a company. Bar review is not considered a pleasant experience and is associated with extremely high levels of stress.
