Questions to Ask the Employer during an Interview

In a successful interview, both parties should be questioned for information. It is important to be knowledgeable about the job to ensure it will be a good fit.

Ask about the major responsibilities of the job. If there is a job description, review it for responsibilities and check to see if there are any requirements you were not expecting. It is important to know the exact job you are applying for.

Inquire as to why the position is open. How many times has it been filled in the last several years? If it has a particularly high turnover rate, a red flag might be raised.

Find out about the previous person in the position. What did the boss like about their work style and what would they like to see change? Ask about the challenges to the position, and what qualities the employer feels are needed for the job.

What deadlines and priorities are there? How much flexibility and freedom is given? How is performance judged? It is good to know the criterion with which you will be working in.

Find out if the company is projected to grow? Are there measures in place to keep its competitive edge? Do you have a feel they will be strong in the future?

Make sure you sign on to a job which you enjoy. Do not be hesitant to ask questions. It shows the employer that you are serious and are interested in the long term.
